A Quick View of 1st grade Learning Targets

Writing Learning Targets:

  • Penmanship is neat, well spaced, and easy to read
  • Illustrations match printed material
  • Use a plan for writing-web, list, or time line is made
  • Writing pieces have 4-6 complete sentences
  • Topic is in the first sentence
  • Descriptive wors (adjectives/adverbs) describe the topic
  • Pronouns are used to vary sentence beginnings
  • Basic punctuation and capitalization are used correctly
  • Sight words are spelled correctly

Reading Learning Targets:

     We use the five components of reading for instruction

Phonemic Awareness

  • Identify the beginning, middle, and end sounds in one-syllable words
  • Segment and blend sounds in words

Phonics

  • Names the sounds of letters
  • Blends and reads one-syllable words
  • Identifies and reads the first 300 Seeing Stars sight words

Vocabulary

  • Learns and uses words introduced in stories

Fluency

  • Reads differentiated text fluently
  • Reads leveled 1st grade passage at a rate of 40-60 words per minute

Comprehension

  • Tells the maing idea of a simple story
  • Identifies and answers questions about the characters, setting, and events in a story
  • Answers questions after listening to or reading a story

Math Learning Targets

  • Adds and subtracts using numbers
  • Shows how to find the answer to a simple story problem
  • Chooses and uses the correct tool for measurement (clock, money, ruler, calendar, non-standard tools)
  • Makes a pattern using......(numbers, manipulatives, shapes, colors, etc.)
  • Identifies and names shapes (rectangle, circle, square, triangle)
  • Counts, reads, and writes whole numbers to 100
